Tiko Wins Songwriter of the Year Award.
Nov. 29, 2003 - Congratulations to Lyndon Sterling, (AKA "Tiko"), for winning the Gospel Composer/Songwriter of the Year Award at the 5th Annual COTT Music Awards, in Trinidad and Tobago. Some of the best known and loved artists in the land turned out in splendor last Monday at Queen's Hall in Port of Spain when the Copyright Organization of T&T staged this years music awards.
Among the nights eleven featured performers were The Mighty Sparrow, Iwer George and Sherwin Gardener (one of the country's top gospel artists). Clad in a zoot suit, Sherwin and his band (including background vocals by Vanessa Briggs) performed a new R&B version of his hugely popular "I Worship You." Sherwin, Noel Richards and Lyndon Sterling were the nominees at this gala event for the coveted Gospel Composer of the Year award. Lyndon, from the dynamic duo "Tiko and Gitta" took home the trophy.
Other notable nominees include Sheldon Blackman (from The Love Circle) for the Jazz/World Music Composer of the Year Award. At the end of the evening, Neil "Iwer" George emerged as the night's most successful recipient taking home three of the crystal plaques. Winners were adjudged for having the most amount of airplay on local radio and at fetes (concerts) over the last year.
As for Tiko and Gitta, they are both currently working on solo albums and each is in full support of the other's career/ministry. As for the award, Tiko credits the arsenal of airplay for his song "Hallelujah" on Radio Isaac 98.1 and gives thanks to Jesus Christ for such an honor. "Hallelujah" is a standout track on Tiko and Gitta's "Royal Priesthood" debut (Lion of Zion Entertainment). If you haven't heard this album, check it out today!
